Books to Read in Pairs

When I saw this tag on my reader I thought it said “Books to Read in Paris” and since I didn’t see Anna and the French Kiss in the banner I got really offended and clicked on it in my rage. After reading Thrice Read‘s intro I soon released my mistake and calmed down enough to realize that this is a pretty creative tag.

To do it you pick 5 – 10 pairs of books that you think would go well together. They either compliment each other or balance each other out.

1.Vengance Road and Under a Painted Sky

This is kind of a gimme. Westerns with a female lead? Check. Girls disguised as boys? Check. Revenge turned into the ultimate Wild West journey and adventure? Check and mate.

2. Anna and the French Kiss and 13 Little Blue Envelopes

Anyone who read Anna and the French Kiss probably had travel fever afterwards (I know I did). A perfect follow-up is one that takes you rushing across the entirety of Europe (cute boy included).

3.The Other Boleyn Girl and My Lady Jane

While the only thing similar to these novels is the setting, I find it nice to follow up something serious like The Other Boleyn Girl with something funny, or even vice versa. The similar setting keeps you in the same mindset, while the mood is totally different.

4.The Yellow Wallpaper and Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is one of my favorite books of all time. I wrote an essay on it for crying out loud. However, it’s a book I think you need to enter into with the kind of mind The Yellow Wallpaper puts you into so that you can truly appreciate it.

5.Flame in the Mist and Serpentine

If you’re all for dynamic, Asian female protagonists, look no further. While neither of these books are particular favorites of mine the aesthetics and concepts are something I really enjoy, and they compliment each other so well! They’d be perfect for a binge read.

Have any books you think would go well with the ones I chose? how about any pairings of your own? Please feel free to join in on the tag and let me know so I can check out your recommendations!
